ATLANTA GAY PRIDE 2021 CANCELLED SERIES
Atlanta’s reputation as a Black gay destination is magnified during the first weekend of September, especially when thousands gather in Piedmont Park on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.Ītlanta Bear Pride is an annual three-day series of bear-themed events and parties that celebrate bear culture while also supporting and raising funds for local businesses and charities in metro Atlanta. The masses of Black LGBTQ people who gather in Atlanta each Labor Day weekend is incomparable, as are the mind-blowing parties and community-empowerment seminars. What began as informal house parties has grown into the largest Black Gay Pride celebration in the world. The annual pool party regularly features fireworks, free-flowing drinks and plenty of shirtless men, and has raised more than $1.3 million to fight AIDS over the last two decades. Approaching its silver anniversary, Out on Film is one of the oldest LGBTQ film festivals in the country and strives to bring multicultural films and other titles that otherwise would not receive big-screen distribution.Īn extra dose of “fun” is added to “fund-raising” each summer during the Joining Hearts party, which donates 100 percent of proceeds to HIV/AIDS services. The most entertaining and provocative selections in LGBTQ cinema are showcased during the “Out on Film” festival each fall. The annual black-tie affair features the leading activists and entertainers advancing LGBTQ rights and honors local LGBTQ leaders and allies for their work to make Georgia more accepting. Raising well over a quarter-million dollars a year for the Human Rights Campaign, the Atlanta HRC dinner is a standard-bearer throughout the nation.
